Review of Bally’s Code Red Slot Machine
Code Red Slots is a 5-reel, 30-payline gaming machine from Bally Technologies. The Code Red slot machine uses a 22-inch LCD display to render graphics which look traditional at first glance, but brings with it the versatility of a video slots game. The standard mode and bonus games look completely different on Code Red Slots, so this keeps things fresh from a player’s perspective. Code Red makes good use of music to signal when the most exciting features have been triggered.
The reel symbols on Code Red are quite basic, though I prefer to use the term “traditional”. Icons include the 7, diamond, cherries, diamonds, dollar symbol, the ringing bell (like in boxing), money bag, bar, triple bar, and the code red symbol. The code red symbol is an important icon, because it unlocks so many of the top payouts and bonuses in the game. I’ll discuss each below.
Max Bets and Coin Denominations
The max bet on Code Red Slots is 300 coins. Always place the 30-payline bet, because this triggers the top jackpot amounts. A variety of coin denominations are offered, including 1-penny and 2-penny versions of the game. Penny players can enjoy Code Red Slots’ top fixed jackpot, along with high rollers who want to play for several hundred dollars a spin.
Free Spin Bonus Game
The free bonus mode has graphics which remind me of a 1980’s arcade game. The icons are neon colored, while they look more like more traditional reel icons in the standard mode. The bonus round uses a variation of the U-Spin game feature so common to Bally Technologies games. When the spin feature appears, you’ll use your fingers to simulate spinning motion, which sets the bonus reel to spinning.
You can win hundreds or even thousands of coins on the spin mode. Options include round figures like 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000. I’ve seen other figures, too, such as 2400, 3100, and 5400. What this should tell you is players have an excellent chance of collecting thousands of coins when they use the U-Spin bonus feature, because that’s what most of your options will be. Alternately, you can win 8 or more free games (spins). When you win free spins, you’ll be taken to another screen in order to complete that game mode.
The indications you’ve won free spin is the “Code Red: 8 Free Spins” feature. The siren on the top of the gaming machine starts to sound off, and a distinctive upbeat song begins to play. Anytime the “Code Red” symbol appears during the sequence of free spins, it turns into a Wild symbol which remains active for the rest of your spins.
As the free game continues, you’ll be able to save these “Wild” icons as they appear on the screen. When the reel spins, the word “Wild” will remain stationary in its part of the reel. When the reel comes to a stop, it will substitute for any symbol except the scatters, if it helps to complete a winning payline. This provides a bigger margin for error, as you’ll have more opportunities to win. I’ve seen as many as 6 wild symbols appear on the game at one time. This builds up a tremendous momentum, giving players a chance at bigger payouts.
Code Red Slots Review
Code Red Slots is a traditional Bally Technologies slot machine, though it has a payout structure which has won a loyal following over the years. While it won’t stand out in slots row when compared to the HD graphics games like David Copperfield or the progressive jackpot slot machines, it pays back more often than those games and offers a nice variety of bonuses and free spins. Code Red is a player favorite, because it provides the entertainment of winning several thousand coins quite often.
Code Red Mobile Slots
A mobile slot machine version of Code Red is available now as a $1.99 download. Navigate to the iTunes store, put in the words “Code Red Bally Technologies”, and it should be the first entry. The latest version is 1.3.1, which was last updated in March 2012 and takes up a mere 27.3 MB of space on your computer. The graphics and game play are the same as the stand-up slot machine or the online version. Those who had trouble with this game in 2012 should give it another try, because Bally fixed the free game issues in the resulting updates.
Code Red HD Slots
Do not confuse Bally Technologies’ Code Red Slots with the “Code Red HD” 3D slot machine from World Match. The HD graphics and 3D animations on the World Match game includes a 16:9 aspect ratio and a futuristic story involving a race against time to save the Earth from an asteroid. While the 3D game looks beautiful and the sounds are crisp and dramatic, it does not feature the same nice payouts as the Bally Technologies game.
