Vegas Hits

Review of Bally’s Vegas Hits Slot Machine

The Vegas Hits slot machine is a 5-reel, 40 line game with a Las Vegas casino slot theme. The game was designed and is manufactured by Bally Technologies. It’s available in denominations suitable for the lowest of low rollers (at a penny per spin) and the highest of high rollers (at the maximum bet of €10 per line, for a wager of €400 per spin).

The graphics, music, and sound effects for this game are exceptional. It’s hard to imagine how this particular theme would not appeal to slot players of most temperaments.  The hit rate on this game is higher than that of most other slot machine games, too, although, of course, the payouts on the wins are correspondingly smaller.

Reel Symbols

Vegas Hits slots use traditional gambling iconography to good effect. The reel symbols include cherries, sevens, dice, roulette wheels, playing cards, and miniature slot reels from traditional games. The most important symbol, though, is the “Vegas Hits” symbol, which is designed to remind the player of the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign at the southern end of the Las Vegas strip.

The top jackpot on the game is €10,000, which is the payoff when a player hits five of the Vegas Hits symbols in a row. The miniature slot reels symbol triggers the second highest payout of €5000. Five roulette wheels in a row triggers a jackpot of €2000, and five blackjack symbols activate the €1000 jackpot.

The lower-ranked symbols trigger respectable payoffs, too, though. Five “7’s” pays off at €500, and five cherries is worth €300. Finally, if five of the craps dice come up in a payline, the player wins €250.

It’s hard to imagine a way of making such common icons exciting, but the graphics designer for this game has done an outstanding job of breathing new life into these symbols. All of the graphics seem to leap off the screen. Even the sevens and the cherries, which are as standard as slot machine symbols could possibly be, seem to live anew in this game.

Coin Denominations

Players can wager on between 1 and 40 paylines in this game. Special Pays

The game features a variety of special symbols which improve the amounts the player can win. For example, the poker chip multipliers are scatter symbols which multiply your win by a certain amount based on the denomination of the chip. Chips come in denominations of 1X, 5X, 10X, and 25X. They’re colored green, red, blue, and yellow, respectively. Each of those multiply your winnings by the listed amount.

On the second, third, and fourth reels, you’ll sometimes see “bonus wheel” symbols. These symbols result in free bonus spins. The bonus spins use the amount you wagered and the number of lines you wagered on to determine their payouts. The “Money Wheel” is triggered by three bonus wheels, and it results in a payout of €20 to €1000.

The game also features wild symbols, which stand in for other symbols in the game for determining a win. Think of the wild symbol as being similar to a wild card in a poker game. Wild symbols have become increasingly popular among slot machine players, and they’re used to good effect in Vegas Hits slot machine.

Las Vegas

It’s impossible to write about a Las Vegas casino gambling themed slot machine without including a few interesting facts about the city itself. Las Vegas has become synonymous worldwide with “casino gambling”, but the city has a fascinating history. The city bills itself as the “Entertainment Capital of the World”, and if you’ve ever been there, you know that this reputation has been earned.

Many people refer to Las Vegas as “Sin City”. That’s because many of the adult forms of entertainment in Las Vegas are associated with sin elsewhere in the country. This includes activities like gambling and drinking, but also visiting the many adult-themed shows and strip clubs located in the city.

Las Vegas legalized gambling in 1931. At the same time, Hoover Dam was under construction, which created an influx of new residents. It also became one of the easiest cities in the country for filing a divorce—the waiting period for a divorce in Las Vegas was only six months.

The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, which inspires one of the more important symbols in the Vegas Hits slot machine game, was erected in 1959. The sign is 25 feet tall. The designer of the sign, Betty Willis, never copyrighted the design, so it’s commonly seen any time someone in graphic arts or design wants to evoke the atmosphere of Las Vegas casino gambling.

The sign is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s also registered with the State Register of Historic Places in Nevada.
