Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania slots are slot machine games manufactured and designed by IGT (International Game Technology). Most players just called the game ‘Lobstermania‘ instead of attempting the tongue twister.
The main character is, of course, a lobster. And his name is Lucky Larry.
What makes him so lucky?
I guess he hasn’t been caught by a lobster fisherman yet. Then again, the game is designed around a lobster fishing theme, so the choice of mascot might seem odd. But weird works well in casinos, both online and off, and this is one of the most popular and fun games from IGT.
IGT’s Lobstermania Slots
International Game Technology (IGT) has built their business by adapting intellectual property from other media and turning it into slot machine games. You’ll recognize many of their big names: Wheel of Fortune slots, Clue slots, Star Trek slots, and Ghostbusters slots.
Lobstermania isn’t like those other games, though. It’s a unique game. And it’s available in both online and traditional casinos. The plot is thin compared to other games, but that’s because it’s a classic. Plot heavy, story based slots are a recent development. The rules are easy and so is the layout.
Reels and Symbols
The game has 25 pay line and 5 reels. It’s available in the following denominations: $0.01, $0.02, $0.05, $0.10, $0.20, $0.50, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, and $25. Such a wide range of wager sizes allows gamblers with almost any size bankroll to participate.
You can wager as little as a penny per spin or as much as $500 per spin.
It’s up to you.
The symbols feature 2 different image sets. The first are the playing card symbols, Jack through Ace. The second are the game-specific symbols—pictures of lobsters and other fish, as well as fishermen, ships, and lighthouses.
Lobstermania slots also boasts the following special features:
- A Bonus Symbol
- A Wild Symbol
- A Scatter Symbol
The bonus symbol is the eponymous Lucky Larry, all decked out in his fisherman clothes, and with his claws in the air. If you get 3 of him on an active line you trigger the Buoy Bonus.
The wild symbol is also Lucky Larry, but this time he’s wearing fancy sunglasses. He’s also drinking a cool, refreshing adult beverage. The wild symbol substitutes for any other symbol needed to create a winning combo, with 2 exceptions—the scatter symbol and the bonus symbol.
If you guessed that the scatter symbol is Larry again, wearing different clothes, give yourself a gold star. This time, though, Larry’s trapped in a lobster trap. If you get lucky, you win an instant cash bonus.
The original land-based version of this game used the B-52s’ song, ‘Rock Lobster’. The online version also uses this song, but only on a 7 second loop that repeats when you spin the reels. Luckily, IGT allows you to turn the audio off on their games. It won’t take long to get tired of this sound clip, I promise.
The Buoy Bonus Game
When you trigger the Buoy Bonus game by getting 3 Lucky Larry symbols in a row, you get to choose from one of 3 Lucky Larry icons. You’ll see the words ‘Pick Me!’ on the screen if you’re not sure how to proceed. The outcome is entirely random—you get either 2, 3, or 4 buoys—it’s all based on how lucky you get.
Each of these buoy symbols reveals between 2 and 4 prices, which range from 5X to 250X your original bet.
The Online Game versus The Traditional Game
The Web version of the game differs in some noteworthy ways from the original. For example, the land-based game has an awesome second bonus round called ‘The Great Lobster Escape‘. During this bonus game, you get to take the role of a lobster trying to escape from a wily lobster fisherman and his traps. The rewards in this original bonus game resemble the bonuses in the ‘Buoy Bonus‘ game, but the variety in terms of theme and game-play is nice.
I wish the online game offered that bonus round.
Also, the Buoy Bonus round, which is present in the online version, differs online. When you play the brick and mortar version of the game, you win actual free spins instead of just a flat dollar amount. This is more fun for most players, but who am I to judge?
I think a lot of players probably agree with me though.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania is a hugely popular slot machine game both online and in traditional casinos. In fact, you could find it in land-based casinos before the Internet gambling thing caught on. It’s not as fancy technologically as some of IGT’s games, but it’s fun and simple. It’s also appropriate for players with different bankrolls.
