50 Dragons by Aristocrat – Slot Machine Review
If you’re coming from the land-based casino market, and you want to get your feet wet at an online casino, going with a slot machine that’s been adapted for it might be the way to go. 50 Dragons comes from Aristocrat, a developer that’s doing quite well with the machines they’ve been building for land-based casinos, and they’re slowly expanding into the online market as well. The Asian theme that’s being used here is a very popular one right now.
You get a bit of an idea of the kind of layout you’re going to find from the title, and indeed there are 50 active lines present on the game’s 5×4 reels. With medium volatility, 50 Dragons will offer up to $2,000 in rewards from individual combinations, but these can add up once you take into account the wilds, scatters or free spins, especially the latter since they get additional wilds and stacked Dragons.
Betting
50 Dragons is the sort of game that will give you control over your wagers, and there are two ways to change their value inside. One is through the number of active lines, a maximum of 50 being available each round. Second, you can use a line bet between $0.01 and $2, resulting in a betting range of $0.50 to $100 for all lines active.
50 Dragons Jackpot
Look out for the representation of the Golden Dragon, seen in one of the game’s symbols. Have it appear on five positions of the same line, and its 1,000x reward could get you a $2,000 prize. Take into account all 50 lines, and the fact that Dragons will appear stacked, and you could even get a full screen of icons, accompanied by a payout of up to $100,000.
Special Features
The main symbol of the game, as the trigger of the jackpot, will be the Golden Dragon that I just mentioned above. It’s a stacked symbol, it pays 1,000x the line bet when forming a combination, and it’s going to be your main hope for a good prize.
Wild Pearl Symbol
The Dragon’s Pearl will be your wild feature in the game, usable as a substitute only and while appearing on reels 2 through 5. It’s not showing up on reel 1, so it can’t offer you its own paying combinations in this game.
Free Spins
The Chinese Gold Ingot, taking the usual shape of an Emperor’s hat, is your go to scatter for 50 Dragons. As it’s appearing on the first three reels only, you will need it on all three in order to get access to free spins. The free spins wins are not guaranteed, but the scatters do offer a 4x reward at the beginning, multiplying the round’s total bet.
With 10 free spins to spend, you also get a chance to re-trigger this feature with 5 additional rounds, while the slot adds wild symbols to the reels each round. You could even get the wild to become a stacked symbol, and the potential at that point would be huge.
By far, the most promising part of the game will be this one, with the free spins which have increased odds of paying you.
Design
In terms of graphics, Aristocrat is not a developer that I’d associate with modern times. They’re giving us an Asian themed slot in this case, one that borrows heavily from 50 Lions when it comes to game mechanics. The theme revolves around Asian-style dragons, though we also see images of roosters, tigers and fish, along with dragon pearls, gold ingots and the usual collection of badly designed Royals.
Don’t expect to get a great looking slot machine from them, they’re just not that type of developer right now. If graphics are not particularly important to you, then games like 50 Dragons will work just fine, they’re not ugly, just not modern.
Summary
50 Dragons might not have aged well, but you’re still looking at a game with a lot of paylines, with cool features and it’s even giving you a chance to get stacked wilds during its free spins.
