Online casino games operators in Michigan have set a record in terms of revenue generated for January 2025.
In a report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), the revenue generated from iGaming resulted in gross receipts totalling $248.2 million.
This figure is the highest to date; the previous number was $244.0 million which was recorded in December 2024. With January’s record-setting revenue, Michigan online casinos’ adjusted monthly gross receipts totalling to $233.1 million represented a year-on-year increase of 42%.
Where Do Michigan Online Casinos Stand with “The Big Three”?
Between all the states where online casinos are regulated, in terms of revenue generation, “the big three” comprising Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan still hold the biggest portion of the pie.
Namely, Pennsylvania still holds the highest revenue, but Michigan’s current surge that started since last October 2024 has seen the Great Lake State overtake New Jersey which generated $221.6 million in January earnings. However, Michigan is still trailing behind Pennsylvania, who recorded $268.0 million.
Generally, the fourth quarter is the most prosperous time for iGaming states. That said, Michigan’s online slot games and casino market continues to surge. It’s the fourth straight month the Great Lake State has broken a revenue record.
October 2024 saw them hit $220.7 million, and November 2024 numbers clocked in at $226 million. Meanwhile, December 2024’s numbers were previously the highest mark at $244 million, until January 2025’s record-setting $248.2 million.
Moreover, thanks to a strong January, iGaming operators in Michigan experienced a 1.7% month-over-month increase. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania and New Jersey did not improve from December; Pennsylvania saw 4.7% month-over-month decrease, and New Jersey experienced 2.8% month-over-month decrease.
Given Michigan’s current hot streak and revenue generated so far, it has settled in second place amid “the big three” USA iGaming markets. That said, Pennsylvania still holds the top spot, and if Michigan wants to land the top spot, they need to continue breaking revenue numbers for the first quarter of 2025.
