2024 was a great year for New Jersey online casino games operators, as they garnered a record revenue of $228 million in December 2024 to cap off the year. This number continues the state’s iGaming boom of 5 straight months of having record revenue.

The yearly record for online casinos in New Jersey for 2024 was reported at $2.4 billion. This was a significant increase, and experts say that the current projections see online casinos to surpass $10 billion in lifetime revenue since it started back in 2013.

New Jersey Online Casinos Gathering Momentum

iGaming narrowly finished behind Atlantic City casino revenue, which posted $231.8 million last month. The only month when online casinos and online slot games have gotten the edge over their brick-and-mortar counterparts was back in October 2024.

That said, Casino Control Commission Chairman James T. Plousis noted that online casino growth has been steadily on an upward trajectory, and that 2024 was a considered a banner year as far as their impact in the state’s gaming industry is concerned,

“In 2024, on-line gaming solidified as a prominent and critical segment of New Jersey’s gaming industry. Annual internet gaming win exceeded last year’s record by more than 24%. Monthly internet gaming win ended the year strong, setting a record for the fifth consecutive month.”

Moreover, a report from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) stated that growth across two of the state’s three sectors, with only land-based casinos seeing a decline.

To date, the online casino industry in New Jersey has grown 24% from 2023. In 2019, online operators produced just $482.7 million in yearly revenue. But during 2020, online casino revenue saw a sharp spike, due in large part to the Covid-19 pandemic making players resort to use online casinos for their gambling needs.

The momentum didn’t slow down, as the vertical for online casinos crossed the $1 billion mark in 2021, and finally, shattering the $2 billion threshold in 2024.

NJ Retail Casinos Competing with Online Casino Verticals

As for retail casinos in New Jersey, they now find themselves going toe-to-toe against online casinos with their verticals. December 2024 saw retail properties finish the month with just more than $3 million ahead of online casino gaming operators.

Decline in the land-based casino sector was the only real down point for New Jersey during 2024 – revenue slid down 1.1% to $2.82 billion, but traditional casinos are still the primary source of gambling revenue in the state.
That said, while real money online casinos are riding the great 5-month streak, Atlantic City casinos should regain its supremacy of the gambling in June, July and August. This is due to the incoming offseason, but it remains to be seen whether retail casinos can keep the pace and remain on top of the revenue in the following years.
