Travel to the plains of Africa with Thunderhorn, a slot machine with a rhino for its main character, whose name should be obvious from the title. This Bally release will have several exciting features to offer, but only average graphics.
First, let’s take a look at the game’s layout, which they’ve implemented with 5×4 reels and 1024 ways to win, so it’s a modern choice that is still not very common. You can get paid fairly well, particularly once multipliers start piling up during the free spins. The regular wins might go up to $4,800 per combo formed, but with wilds, up to 9x combined multipliers, free spins and scatters to help out, there are plenty of things that could be considered exciting.
Betting
Your betting range in Thunderhorn will be $0.40 to $640, the game relying on 40 bet lines and considering them sufficient to activate all ways to win (1024). The bet per line will vary between $0.01 and $16 for that kind of range.
Thunderhorn Jackpot
While I don’t know exactly what’s the upper limit that Bally has set for winnings obtained in Thunderhorn, I do know that things can get exciting once you reach the free spins. You get up to $4,800 per win in the base game, but wild multipliers can add up and reach a maximum of 9x for the feature, so at that point we’re looking at a reward of $43,200 per top combo.
The usual 94% RTP has been announced for this game as well, as is the case with most slots in Bally’s collection to be present in land-based casinos.
Special Features
As is often the case in Bally slot machines, Thunderhorn will have its own unique features to offer, and the game can be interesting to play thanks to them.
Wild Symbols
The African Tree, which is incredibly common in slot machines, will be part of the paytable’s symbols and will be used in the role of the wild feature. While it’s limited to appearances on the reels 2, 3 and 4, so paying you through its own combinations is excluded, it can still be a very useful substitute, though only for regular symbols. Once you reach the free spins, it adds a 2x or 3x random multiplier as well, and these add up if several wilds contribute to a combo.
Free Games
You have a Bonus logo, placed against a shield, for the game’s scatter. These appear on all reels and will trigger 8, 15 or 20 free spins, as long as you get 3, 4 or 5 icons of this type. At this point, the Wild Tree gains that 2x or 3x random multiplier. Apparently, each multiplier that comes is applied, so the wins can get a serious boost if there are 2 or 3 wilds around.
In order to re-trigger the free games, you need 2 or more scatters to appear again, and at that point they give you 5 to 20 extra rounds.
Design
This being Bally, we’re not looking at the best looking slot machine around, but it’s going to do its job well enough. It’s obviously African themed, with the rhino being its major focus. Other symbols that the game uses for its symbols range from the African Tree, the Bonus Shield, Tribal Masks, leopards, tribal drums and pottery with African patterns on it. The least interesting symbols I’ve seen inside come in the form of the Royals/playing cards.
Summary
If you like games with ways to win and big potential multipliers, Thunderhorn will have both to offer. It’s just too bad that a high RTP is not available as well.
